Pay It Back

Lury Furniture is committed to the environment and aims to source materials from well managed, sustainable sources with trademark assurance awarded by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), or similar organisations.  In this way, we know that wood has come from a forest that is maintained and managed to a recognised standard; one that has gained a trademark assurance and accreditation for responsible forestry.

It is important that supplies of timber are carefully sourced, used and replenished to avoid extinction.  If you are interested in learning more, there many places to obtain further information on this issue with a good starting point being The Forest Stewardship Council FSC (http://www.fsc-uk.org/) , Friends of the Earth Good Wood Guide which details the threat of extinction per species available (http://www.foe.co.uk/campaigns/biodiversity/resource/good_wood_guide/), and the WWF campaign “What Wood You Choose” (http://www.wwf.org.uk/what_we_do/campaigning/what_wood_you_choose/).

For each piece of furniture that is commissioned, regardless of the size, Lury Furniture will plant a tree with “Trees for Life” and a personalised certificate commemorating the planting of the tree will accompany your piece of furniture.

There are many organisations that are looking for support to replenish and maintain forestry stock both in the UK and abroad.  Lury Furniture has committed to “Trees for Life” (www.treesforlife.org.uk/).  Trees for Life is an award-winning charity with a strong vision to restore the wild Caledonian Forest in Scotland, which is there for its own sake, as a home for wildlife and to fulfil the ecological functions necessary for the wellbeing of the land itself.
